The Imo State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a three-man robbery syndicate in Owerri.

The gang, according to the police, specialises in robbing bank customers. They operate in a vehicle, using a special key with which they unlock people’s cars.

The state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, told reporters that N450,000, belonging to their victim, was recovered from the suspects.

The CP identified the suspects as Isaac Onwuguzo, 45; and Anyahie Ehirim, 36, adding that a Toyota Camry with number plate EPE 44 ET was recovered from them.

The police boss said, “The surveillance team, while on a patrol along Okigwe Road, got a tip – off that a man who withdrew N500,000 from a bank was trailed from the bank to Jevnik junction –Ikenegbu, where he parked his car to duplicate some documents.

“While the car was parked, the suspects used a special key to open the car and removed the money and zoomed off in an ash Toyota Camry.

“Our men went after them. While attempting to escape, the robbers had an accident and our men arrested them immediately.”

He explained further that the suspects would be charged to court at the end of investigation.
