Petroleum Tanker Drivers, PTD, an arm of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has described as mischievous and unfounded insinuations that its members will be going on strike on Monday, February 5, 2018.

In a statement, PTD’s National Chairman, Comrade Salimon Akanni Oladiti, insisted that the union never issued any three day-strike notice to the Federal Government which has been trending in the social media, urging Nigerians to ignore the rumour targeted at causing panic in the country.

According to the statement: “Our attention has been drawn to a very mischievous and unfounded rumour circulating in the social media platforms that the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Branch of NUPENG issued 3 days ultimatum to the federal government of Nigeria. We strongly deny this information which is false, unfounded and calculated attempt to cause mischief and panic in the country.

“As a matter of fact, the leadership of the branch met with the minister of works, housing and power on Thursday 1st February 2018 where comprehensive reports of all the on going repairs and reconstructions of damaged highways were discussed and deliberated upon with further assurances of immediate palliative works on those that are in very terrible state presently.

“We want to also use this medium to assure the general public that our members will ensure that products are delivered to the fuel stations anytime products are available at the depots. There is no need to panic because we are not going on any strike. Similarly, we assure all our members that we shall not relent in ensuring that their interests and wellbeing receive adequate attentions and considerations at all time.”
