Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has said that he has no intention to impose candidates on members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the forthcoming local government election billed to take place on Saturday May 12, 2018 in the state.
Ajimobi while reacting to Monday’s protest where some aggrieved members of the party alleged imposition of candidates said he would not impose anyone on the party but that members of the party were the one to decide on methods to use and candidates that will emerge.
DAILY POST recalled that some members of the party on Monday protested against what they called planned imposition of candidates by the governor.
But Ajimobi while speaking on Tuesday in Iseyin, the headquarters of Iseyin Local Government Area during a town hall meeting and empowerment program organised by Senator representing Oyo North District, Dr. Abdulfatai Buhari that took place at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp, declared that members of the party will determine what method to be used in picking candidates and who they want as their candidates.
Ajimobi said there was no time he planned to impose candidates on the people but that what he wanted was for the party to decide the method they want to use in picking candidates and the candidates they want.
Ajimobi said “The local government election is coming. I will not impose anyone. But I want beg you, each local government I want you to go and cooperate.
“You see all those who are saying we are going to primary, tell them that in boxing, the two people will come, but there is no way you do it, one person must win. Of course, there is indirect primary and their is direct primary. We can use any of the two, it is what you decide.
“I want you to talk to yourself, I want you to sit and talk to yourself”.
