Ukandu, however, accused the electoral umpire of allegedly working with the governing All Progressives Congress,APC, to subvert the peoples will in the just concluded Osun governorship election.
INEC had on Friday morning declared Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the Osun State governorship election.
The State Returning Officer of the contest, Prof. Joseph Areola Afuwape, made the declaration after reeling out scores of all the 48 candidates that participated in the election one after the other.
The PDP chieftain who spoke with DAILY POST on Friday, said, “There is no rerun election in Osun state. The purported rerun election was a mockery of the nation’s democracy. What happened there was a daylight robbery. It is the highest level of democratic immorality ever witnessed on the surface of the earth”.
“It was a stage-managed and manipulated activity, being concocted by security forces with the help of INEC and APC. And such a thing, it doesn’t suppose to be called an election in the first place”.
Asked if he was confident on the electoral body conducting free and fair election come 2019, he said, ” How can 2019 election be free and fair when this kind of things are happening? An election won by PDP clearly with a wide margin, all of a sudden, you said it is an inconclusive election, only to turn around and arranged a purported rerun which has already been pre-determined by INEC and their collaborators.
“With this kind of things happening, I doubt if we will have a peaceful election in 2019. I’m calling for a complete overhaul of the electoral body”.
“The system has to be overhauled. Certain people have to leave the commission to function as unbiased empire”.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Friday, congratulated the party’s candidate, Gboyega Oyetola on his victory in the Osun state Governorship re-run elections.
