Osun 2018: APC youths wing begins consultations

As the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) initiated a reconciliation move led by its National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu against 2019 general elections, the youth wing of the party in Osun State has followed suit to reconcile aggrieved members towards the gubernatorial election slated for September 22, 2018.

The group, Osun All Progressives Youth Forum (OAPYF) , on Saturday announced a 2-week long town hall meetings in all the three senatorial districts and eleven Federal constituencies in the state.

Speaking with journalists at Igbonibi Town Hall, Ila-orogun, in the Osun Central Senatorial district, where the consultations kicked off, the Coordinator of the group, Comrade Olateju Olorungbebe said the consultations have been scheduled to hold between February 17 and March 3, 2018.

Olorungbebe explained that the initiative became imperative going by perceived differences amongst some members of the party across the state.

He added that the forum would reach out to necessary stakeholders and stalwarts within the party so as to mend fences and meet at par for future contest.

The coordinator noted that necessary mechanism are in place to make the programme a huge success for the purpose of engendering peace and deep harmony amongst members.

“We consider this move very important to our party in the state, it is indeed an ample opportunity for us to discuss our differences and meet at par.

“As we are interacting with highest echelon of the party and other political office holders, individuals’ and common interests are being analysed and considered for amicable resolution to become better unified as a family.

“The need to solidify and aggregate every interest within the party , with sole aim of sustaining the enviable legacy of Governor Rauf Aregbesola after September 2018 remain paramount and non negotiable.

“We are discussing critical issues as regard strategies to galvanise the state against political wolves in the opposition, whose corrupt tendencies have been exposed by the dynamic style of governance Gov. Aregbesola has brought to bear in the governance of the state.

In his remarks, the Osun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Kolapo Alimi enjoined the youths to exhibit democratic attitudes and ethos in line with embedded brand of governance in the state by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

He argued that the ruling party has tremendously performed to the expectations of the people in the state, adding that huge success has been achieved in the area of education and development of human capital.

Speaking in the same vein, a member of the forum and youth leader, Mr Rasheed Raji Ropo said the forum’s role was to place the party in the right footing through robust conflict resolution mechanism against 2018 governorship election.

“Our mandate includes the strategic formulation of a best possible approach to sustain the present legacy of Governor Aregbesola in the coming gubernatorial election slated for September 2018”.

Earlier speaking, the Oragun of Ila, Oba Wahab Adedotun Bibire during a courtesy visit by the group to his palace urged the youth to promote peace and harmony in the state.

He called all the party members to continue to support Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on his efforts to transform the state and change the socio-economic status of the state.
