Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, Felix Obuah has been directed to honour the invitation of the Rivers State Police Command following a petition against him on the killings recorded in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local government area before, during and after the 2015 general elections.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state had written to the Police over the numerous killings recorded in ONELGA before the 2015 elections.

The APC in the petition also accused Felix Obuah of gun-running and sponsorship of the killings.

The Police invited all those mentioned in the petition, including the PDP Chairman who challenged his invitation in court accusing former Governor Rotimi Amaechi of political witch-hunt.

Meanwhile, after three years of hearing, Justice Adolphus Enebeli of the High Court in Port Harcourt dismissed the application of the PDP Chairman.

Justice Enebeli in his ruling said the Police had the right within the Law to invite any individual for questioning based on a report of crime.

The Judge said mere invitation by the Police does not in any way amount to a breach of fundamental rights.

Speaking with newsmen Counsel to the APC in Rivers State, Emenike Ebete told newsmen that the Police can now effect arrest on the Rivers State PDP Chairman if he failed to honour their invitation.

“Sometimes in 2016 the Police invited Obuah for questioning over the killings before, during and after the 2015 General elections in ONELGA.

“On receiving the letter of invitation he ran to the Rivers State High Court to get an order of injunction retraining the Police from investigating the allegations in the letter.

“We have been on this matter since 2016 and the court has said he should honour the Police invitation. If he fails to honour the invitation the Police can use whatever means to get him into their custody for questioning,” he said.

On his part, Frank Ohiri who represented the Attorney General of Rivers State, Emma Aguma, SAN, refused to make comment on the court’s verdict.

Other respondents in the matter filed by Felix Obuah include the Inspector General of Police, Rivers State Commissioner of Police and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi who he accused of instigating the Police against him.
