Former President, Court of Appeal, Justice Mamman Nasir, yesterday, tasked Northern governors to wake up from slumber and reverse the level of backwardness in the region.
“At present, the North is left behind and the governors must to wake-up from slumber to rescue the region,” he said.
Justice Nasir, who threw the challenge during a reception organised in honour of a Britain-based Nigerian computer wizard, Nasir Abdulkadir Yammama, also called on the governors to invest heavily in education in order to bridge the gap between the North and Southern Nigeria.
He said: “I am calling on the governors of Northern Nigeria to set aside at least 35 percent of their annual budget to develop the education sector.”
Earlier, in his remarks, the computer wizard and the celebrant, Yammama, said his NGO had a lot of work to execute in supporting Girl-child education in Katsina State.
Yammama, who doubles as chairman of Free Education for Rural Girls, said his group had plans to provide succour to poor girls based in the rural areas.
