1. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday appointed Dr. Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa as the new Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Buhari’s Special Assistant on Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu confirmed the appointment in a statement on Monday.
2. The Police in Jigawa State have arrested 19 suspected kidnappers of a traditional leader in Taura Local Government Area of the state. Police Spokesman in the state, ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrest of the suspects after a successful operation in the area.
3. Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has urged the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to stop giving “preferential scores” to students in Northern Nigeria who sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. He stated this on Monday as a guest on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’.
4. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said the conflicting orders emanating from courts of coordinate jurisdiction are making its job difficult. Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, INEC Chairman, said this at the third quarterly meeting with political parties in Abuja on Monday.
5. Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state has asked God to give the country a personality with “good heart” like President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023. Governor Umahi expressed this wish during an interactive session with State House correspondents after meeting with Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
6. The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore says the anti-open grazing law, which was recently enacted by some states will worsen cattle rustling and undermine stability. Mr Saleh Alhassan, the National Secretary of the association, made the call on Monday during a National Peace Summit and Investiture of Queen Mother Amina Temitope Ajayi as the Miyetti Allah Brand Ambassador at Uke, Karu Local Government, Nasarawa State.
7. A trailer conveying motorcycle spare parts was, on Monday, set ablaze by unknown persons apparently enforcing the suspended sit-at-home order of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Enugu State. The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the incident and said that investigation has commenced.
8. The new Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar Aliyu, has said President Muhammadu Buhari sent him to take over the ministry for a purpose. Aliyu said this when he assumed duty at the Federal Ministry of Power, Abuja on Monday.
9. The Chief Justice of Nigeria(CJN), Justice Ibrahim Mohammad has referred three judges involved in dishing out conflict court orders to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for necessary disciplinary action. The CJN took the decision after a marathon meeting with the seven state chief judges who were summoned over the issue.
10. Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Maxwell Opara, has filed a N50 million suit against the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the DSS, over alleged violation of his fundamental human rights. In his suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1018/2021, the Abuja-based lawyer is demanding the sum as compensation for the infringement of his fundamental rights to dignity and human person.
