Former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has scored his first goal of the season for Tianjin Teda.

Mikel netted his first goal for Teda in their 2-1 win over Guangzhou R&F F.C. on match day six in the Chinese Super League on Saturday at the Tianjin Olympic Sports Centre.

Guangzhou R&F opened the scoring through Zhizhao Chen in the 9th minute but the Nigerian captain equalized for the home team 27 minutes later, his first goal in the league this season.

Mikel found the net when Ghanaian Frank Acheampong’s shot was blocked by Jihong Jiang in the area, but he somehow managed to rolled the ball past the goalkeeper despite being challenged by two defenders.

Jiakang Hui made it 2-1 for Tianjin Teda with a header in the 29th minute.

The victory has put Teda eighth position in the provisional standings with eight points.
