MASSOB denies disrupting ECA Enugu in event

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Tuesday night distanced itself from the disruption of an event by the Eastern Consultative Assembly in Enugu.

DAILY POST had reported that pro-Biafra groups brought the event to an abrupt end, after which eleven of them were arrested by the police.

In a reaction, Comrade Uchenna Madu, Leader of MASSOB, told DAILY POST in a statement that the group under his leadership “was not invited or informed of today’s event of Eastern consultative Assembly organized by Evang Elliott Uko at Enugu.

“We are very surprised and shocked to read that MASSOB disrupted an Igbo event to honour some prominent Biafra leaders.

“It is not in our nature or orientation to disrespect, dishonor or insult our elders.

“Evang Eliott Uko did not call or invite me to his event, neither did I call or pressurise him to allow MASSOB members to attend his event.

He added that “the impression that the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo sponsored the disruption is completely false; the agitators that disrupted the event did it as a sign of expressing their minds towards what they believe according to their orientation.

“Ohaneze Ndigbo did not sponsor any disruption against the ECA event.

“Though the people are not our members, we demand for their immediate release.

“MASSOB urges the Enugu state governor to intervene for their immediate release now which will douse unnecessary tension in Igbo land.”
