An FCT High Court on Monday remanded a 20-year-old man, Aliyu Ndalolo, in Kuje prison for homicide after he allegedly stabbed and strangled his mother.

The defendant, a resident of Light Well Estate, Utako, is standing trial on a charge of culpable homicide to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Mr. Shuaibu Labaran, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on June 13, 2016.

He said that Aliyu stabbed his mother, Maryam Ndalolo, with a kitchen knife and then strangled her to death.

The prosecutor added that the defendant hid the corpse in a bag and dumped it at a refuse site at Jabi, where it was later discovered.

The offence, he said, contravened Section 221(b) of the Penal Code and was punishable by death.

Justice Idris Kutigi adjourned the case till April 30 for hearing.
