LG poll: Oyo PDP expresses doubt over new date

The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed doubt over the sincerity of the state Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi and the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) to conduct the State’s council election as scheduled.

This is sequel to the announcement of Saturday May 12th, 2018 as the new date for the rescheduled election into the 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) by the commission.

PDP noted that the same governor and the commission had shifted dates for over three consecutive times.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Engineer Akeem Olatunji while speaking with journalists in Ibadan on Sunday, however, said he hoped that this latest date will not be a ruse.

DAILY POST recalled that OYSIEC Chairman, Mr. John Ajeigbe on Friday at a press conference in Ibadan announced that the new date was sequel to the lifting of a Federal High Court injunction on the conduct of the local government elections in the state.

But Olatunji who spoke on behalf of the state chapter of PDP stressed that as the largest party in the state they were prepared for the election even though they were yet to have a copy of the time table.

Olatunji who berated the ruling All Progressive Party (APC) for its alleged penchant for rigging, however, said there was no way the APC would win a local government, in spite of its rigging machinery.

He said “Actually, we have not seen the copy of the time table; we hope by Monday we will have a copy.

“Apart from that, we are having problem with the sincerity of the governor regarding the conduct of the council poll, but we are ready.

“As at today, we are the biggest party in Oyo state and I don’t see how the APC will win any of the 33 local governments even with their rigging machinery.

“They just announced that there will be election on May 12 and this is not the first time of such; we don’t know, maybe tomorrow the governor will change his mind We cannot rely on what he said as at now, but we are prepared”.
