Senator Smart Adeyemi, representing Kogi West and a key contender in the upcoming November 11 governorship election in the state, has stated that the people from the district have resolved not to vote for any candidate who is not from the region, as it is their turn to produce the next governor.
Adeyemi made the statement during an appearance on Trust TV’s flagship political program, Daily Politics, on Friday. He emphasized that Kogi West has not produced a governor in 32 years, making the demand for representation in the spirit of fairness even more important.
He explained that Kogi West leaders, women, and professionals have collectively agreed not to vote for any candidate outside their zone. Adeyemi added that he and other party members from his senatorial district supported the re-election of Governor Yahaya Bello with the understanding that power would be ceded to the west at the end of his tenure.
Senator Adeyemi urged the party to field a candidate from Kogi West, as the consequences of not doing so could be detrimental to the party. He mentioned that there are three contenders from Kogi West, including himself, the commissioner of finance, and a businessman from Lagos.
