Kano: Police arrest two kidnappers, rescue victims

The Kano State Police Command on Wednesday, said it has arrested two suspected kidnappers.

DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, who stated this, in a statement on Wednesday, in Kano, said a 22-year-old Nura Auwal, of Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, and his accomplice, Abubakar Lawal, of Bachirawa Quarters, were arrested for the kidnapping of 3-year-old Umar Isyaku and 3-year old Aliyu Auwal.

According to him, the two suspected kidnappers demanded for 20 million naira, but after a hectic bargain, they settled for 2 million naira, while their bank account, names were sent to their parents to pay ransom

According to him, the police on receipt of the reports, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mamman Dauda, instructed officers in charge of teams of Operation Restore Peace led by SP Aliyu Muhammad Auwal, and Officer in Charge of Anti-Kidnapping Squad, State Criminal Investigation Department, Kano State Command to carry out the rescue.

According to him, the team swung into action. Sustained efforts coupled with intelligence-led operations leading to the arrest of the suspects, while the victims were rescued unhurt.

He said the suspect admitted to the crime, and would be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.
