Joshua Dariye to Nigerians: Stop insulting leaders, elders on social media

A former governor of Plateau state and senator representing Plateau Central, Joshua Dariye on Saturday called on Nigerians to stop insulting elders and leaders on social media.

He made this call in Jos during the 75th birthday celebration of Senator Jeremiah Useni.

Dariye said, “What Nigerians are doing on social media – insulting elders, leaders – is painful and disheartening.

“JT Useni is our national material, we should preserve him. They are few in Plateau State, and they include General Yakubu Gowon, Dr. Selchang Miner among others.

“We have to preserve them, we need them at the national level. Even though JT Useni is running for the seat of governor, the youths shouldn’t be insulting him.

Senator Useni, who represents Plateau South in the National Assembly, had three days ago declared his intention to run for the governorship seat of the State under the platform of the opposition PDP.

The former governor continued that a lot of people on social media were peddling lies, insulting elders and leaders, stressing that it is not the culture or tradition of any tribe in Nigeria to disrespect elders and leaders.

“I am calling on them to stop, let’s preserve our elders and leaders,” he stressed.

“My appeal is that as you decide to offer yourself, many will opposed you, insult you, remain steadfast”.

Also speaking, the PDP chairman in the state and former minister of Sports, Hon. Damishi Sango, said JT Useni is a bridge builder and detribalized Nigerian.

Sango urged him to continue his good works of touching lives positively.
