John Obi Mikel captains Middlesbrough to victory

Chelsea ex-midfielder, John Obi Mikel wore the captain armband for Middlesbrough for the first time as they registered a 2-0 win against Bolton Wanderers in a Championship clash at Macron Stadium on Tuesday.

Mikel being handed the armband helped the team return to winning ways after series of poor results.

Mikel was named the captain in place of George Friend who missed out through injury..

Mikel was named captain because of his experience and the respect he commands among his teammates.

Mikel who is the Super Eagles captain, and the 2016 Olympic Team in Brazil, also wore the armband in few games while at Chelsea and skippered Tianjin Teda in his first season in China.

Since returning to England, Mikel had started the last 13 games played by Middlesbrough.
