Investors destroy Wonder Bank office in Cross River


Aggrieved investors, Friday, destroyed an office of a ‘Wonder Bank’ at 34 Bassey Duke in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State.

The investors made up of market women, business owners and students alleged that the ‘Wonder Bank’ swindled them of several millions of naira.

The victims according to DAILY POST investigations decided to destroy the office of the company after the management was nowhere to be found.

Many investors, who had come to collect their money waited for more than for several hours but there was nobody to attend to them.

Findings further revealed that the return on investment was 30 percent, payable in seven days

“When angry investors who had invested money ranging from N20,000 to N2.5M, arrived the office, they waited for over for several hours without but there was nobody to attend to them. They destroyed the office and carted away various properties,” a source hinted.

Some of the victims told DAILY POST that the manager of the company promised to pay them by 10am yesterday (Friday) but was nowhere to be found.

One of the victims, Mr. Fredrick Agom said that he lost N1.7 million, adding that he was paid return on investment twice before the management bolted away.

He said: “I was expecting to get extra N510,000 from my investment of 1.7million naira because the return was 30% but I didn’t know the business was like MMM, the people are nowhere to be found; I have been here since 11: am, but up till now, he has refused to pick calls and the phone line has now been switched off,” he decried.

Another affected person, and a 300-level student of Microbiology in CRUTECH Juliet –Nora Isong said she and her other students put their schools fees, totalling N1.2m into the scheme.

Her words: “12 of us, myself and 11 others put 100 thousand naira each to raise N1.2 million, which we gave to the company last week. We came today to get the money, which is 360,000 interest, but we are shocked that they have disappeared,” she lamented.

Efforts to reach the Marketing Manager, Mr. Joseph Akpan on phone were unsuccessful as he was not taking his calls, neither did he reply the SMS sent to him.
