How Cross River agency engages in unwholesome practices – State assembly

The finance and appropriation committee of the Cross River State House of Assembly says the Assets Management Agency has engaged in unwholesome acts in the state.

Most of the agency’s activities, it stated, has crippled the operations of other ministries, departments and agencies in the state, particularly the general hospitals in Sankwala, Ogoja and the ministry of environment.

The House committee, in a reports signed by its chairman, Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams, said, “The Agency simply entered the premises of the aforementioned ministries, department and agencies and seized motor vehicles and other assets which they later disposed without recourse to due process.

“All attempts to enable them appear before the committee and offer explanation failed. They now operate from no fixed address and are alleged to be carrying out their activities in company of armed policemen.”

The committee further stated, “As at the time of compiling this report, the following items were said to have been forcefully taken away by the agency: Ministry of Health: Pick-up with inscription task force on counterfeit and fake drugs.

“Obudu Ranch Resort: 200 fire engines, General Hospital Sankwala:1 Isuzu Ambulance, One 504 Peugeot Ambulance, Hospital beds, General Hospital Ogoja, Ambulance, 3 Lister Generators, 50 Hospital Beds.

“Ministry of Environment: Man diesel C15, Mercedes Benz C10, Mercedes C16, Man diesel C14, Mercedes CO5, Man diesel CO6, Mercedes Benz C12 and computerized CO1.

The finance and appropriation committee however, recommended that the House should invoke sections 127 and 128 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended to compel the Special Adviser/Director General, Asset Management Agency to appear before it to offer explanation on the activities of the agency.
