Herdsmen killings: Ortom’s self defence call, vote of no confidence on Buhari – Afenifere

The apex Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere has reacted to the call by Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state urging residents to defend themselves with stones.

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Tuesday told the Internally Displaced Persons to go home and use stones to defend themselves.

Ortom charged residents to embrace self-defence as he was tired of keeping IDPs in Camps over the uncontrollable killings in the state.

This was after the Chairman, Gwer West Local Government Council of Chiefs, Chief Daniel Abomtse said that 24 persons were killed on Thursday attack on Mbapa, Mbapupuu, Mbachohon, and Enger, all in Agagbe District in Gwer-West LGA.

Afenifere’s publicity secretary, Yinka Odumakin noted that Ortom’s counsel to his people to defend themselves with stones against killer herdsmen translated into a vote of no confidence in the government.

He added that Nigerians should be ready in 2019 to replace the Buhari administration with the one that could protect them.

Odumakin told Punch “Governments are set up for certain purposes, including guaranteeing the security of the people, and once any government can no longer fulfil that mandate, it is left for the people to vote out that government and vote another in its place.

“It is for Nigerians to know that they have to replace this government in 2019 and put in place a government that can secure their lives.”
