Governor Lalong Appoints New Head of Service, Just 48 Hours Prior to Handover

Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State has approved the appointment of Barr. Mrs. Rauta Joshua Dakok as the new Head of Service, a decision announced less than 48 hours before the inauguration of the state’s governor-elect, Barrister Caleb Mutfuwang.

Mutfuwang, who ran on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This swift appointment made by Lalong ahead of his handover highlights his administrative diligence to the end of his term.

Barr. Rauta Dakok succeeds Engr. Sunday Hyat, who has retired after reaching the statutory retirement age and also serving a four-month extension granted by the governor.

Prior to her new position, Dakok served as the Permanent Secretary, General Administration in the office of the Head of Service. With a Law degree from the University of Jos in 1988, she joined the Plateau State Government in 1990 as State Counsel. Rising steadily through the ranks, she held various positions, including Permanent Secretary in several ministries and Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice.

She also contributed significantly at the state and national levels through her involvement in numerous committees, boards, and crucial assignments. Moreover, Dakok has been an active member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and once served as the Chair of the FIDA Plateau State Chapter.

The swearing-in ceremony for the new Head of Service is scheduled for 1pm at the Governor’s Office, Little Rayfield Jos on Saturday 27th May 2023.
