The federal government on Tuesday granted Ghana permission to understudy Nigeria’s pilgrimage system in furtherance of the existing relationship between both countries.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, made this known when a seven-man delegation from the Ghanaian Ministry of Religious and Chieftaincy Affairs were led on a courtesy visit to him by the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Rev Tor Uja, in Abuja.

He said that Ghana in the past had impacted greatly in the development of Nigeria in terms of education, adding that both countries were brothers with a lot of similarity.

His words:“You are in the right place, I am happy you came to Nigeria to understudy our pilgrimage, when we started ours, it was under ministry of foreign affairs, we did not relegate it but put a lot of effort,

“I believe a lot are here for you to learn, we are ready to support you in order to overcome the challenges faced during your first general pilgrimage exercise.

“I believe Nigeria’s peculiarity will suit your country, we are together as brothers and sisters, together in west together in AU and others but the only time we have rivalry is during soccer.”

In his remarks, the Ghanaian Minister for Religious and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, who led the Ghanaian delegation on a three-day working visit to Nigeria, said Ghana fell behind Nigeria in pilgrimage system.

He said that the three days would enable them understudy Nigeria’s pilgrimage system in order to build on the NCPC model and achieve the success Nigeria had achieved over the years.
