Five oil thieves killed in Bayelsa explosion

Five oil thieves have been killed by an explosion following their attempts to vandalise a crude oil pipeline in Bayelsa State.

The incident reportedly occurred at a gas pipeline belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company linking Azagbene in Ekeremor and other communities in Southern Ijaw areas of the state.

The suspected oil thieves were said to have attempted to destroy the pipeline using dynamites when they ran out of luck.

It was learnt that two of the vandals were roasted to death while three others were burnt beyond recognition.

The Chairman, Central Zone Chairman, Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, Mr. Tare Porri, confirming the incident to Punch that the explosion occurred on a gas pipeline belonging to NAOC.

Porri stated, “The incident occurred between the communities of Azagbene and Okpotuari and the victims of the explosion were from Azagbene community.”

“They wanted to vandalise an Agip pipeline by detonating dynamite. But something went wrong and they detonated it on themselves.’
