Late-night fire razed 10 shops in Kasuwar Rimi Market, Kano, as reported by the Kano State Fire Service on Thursday.
Saminu Abdullahi, the Fire Service Spokesman, said the fire began around 8:40 pm on Wednesday. The fire affected stores selling mattresses, beds, and carpentry materials.
Abdullahi stated, “We received a distress call from one Magaji Umar about the fire outbreak at the market. Promptly, we dispatched our personnel and firefighting vehicles to the scene at 8:49 pm to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other shops.”
Out of the 10 affected shops, six were permanent structures, and four were temporary. A public convenience was also partially damaged in the incident.
The fire, according to Abdullahi, resulted from an electric spark from an improvised structure, and the case is currently under investigation. He confirmed that the incident did not result in any injuries or fatalities.
He urged traders to ensure that all electrical appliances are switched off and disconnected from power sources before leaving the market as a safety precaution.
