EPL: David Luiz reacts to Chelsea’s world record signing, Kepa

Chelsea defender, David Luiz has said that the club’s impending signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga represents a huge show of ambition by the West London outfit.

Having failed to report for pre-season training, current Blues goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois is on the verge of completing a £35million move to Real Madrid.

Chelsea have activated Kepa’s £71million release clause and the 23-year-old is en route to London ahead of his medical.

The transfer will represent a world record for a goalkeeper, surpassing the £65m Liverpool paid for Alisson last month.

Luiz said he cannot wait to play alongside the Spain international.

“He is a great keeper, that is why everybody is talking about him,” Luiz told reporters on Wednesday.

“The financial side – every club in the world spends money, not just Chelsea.

“The numbers don’t matter, we are happy because Chelsea are always doing the best for the club.

“When you play for Chelsea you have to think about titles, it doesn’t matter the name of the competition. We have to always try to win.

“That has to be the mentality of every single player when you play for a big club like Chelsea. We are
going to fight for that.”
