The Kano State Police command has arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly impersonating the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II online. Report has it that the young man who is very active on social media pretended to be the Kano monarch on Instagram with 262,000 followers.

The young man was eventually arrested after months of manhunt.

He is currently helping the police with investigation.

Meanwhile, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, last year disowned social media accounts opened in his name. Sanusi said in a statement in Kano that he never authorized any person or organisation to open Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or any other social media account nor post any message on his behalf.

He explained that this should put to rest series of calls and enquiries to the office of the Emir on some purported malicious and fake social media accounts in the name of the monarch. He lamented that the fraudsters have remained unrelenting in their nefarious acts.
