The Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has appointed Mr. Jonathan Phraguwa Zamuna as the new Pukarma Piriga II (Chief of Piriga) in Lere local government area of the state.
His spokesperson, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to Aruwan, the appointment was in line with powers conferred on the governor under section 1 of the Chiefs (Appointment and Deposition) Law CAP. 25, laws of Kaduna State 1991.
The new Pukarma Piriga will be accorded all the rights and privileges pertaining to the office, including membership of the Kaduna State Council of Chiefs.
While congratulating the new monarch, El-Rufai said the appointment places enormous responsibilities on him, one of which is the obligation to give good leadership and to treat everybody with justice and equity.
He urged the Pukarma Piriga to promote peace, be a father to all and do his utmost for the progress of his chiefdom and the state.
He has also informed the chief that he is looking forward to his formal installation and presentation of staff of office.
HRH Jonathan Zamuna, who succeeds the first Pukarma Piriga, HRH Silas Anghai of blessed memory, was born on 1st November, 1955 in Gure, Lere local government area.
He attended LEA Primary School, Gure 1961-1968, and from Barewa College 1970-1974. He graduated with a degree in History from Ahmadu Bello University and earned a master’s degree in Public Administration from Atlanta University.
HRH Jonathan Zamuna had his National Youth Service Corp in Ondo state in 1978 as a classroom teacher. He was first employed in the public service of Kaduna state in 1979 as a senior master, Government Technical Secondary School, Soba.
He also taught History at the Kaduna State College of Education, and later served with the Kaduna State Development and Property Company, and the Kaduna State Housing Authority. In 1992, he joined the service of the National Eye Centre as Deputy Secretary and rose to the rank of Deputy Director before heretired in 2013.
The new monarch was a member of the 1988-1989 Constituent Assembly. He is married with two children. Prior to his elevation, he held the traditional title of Iyan Piriga.
