Doyin Okupe blows hot over Ango Abdullahi’s justification of herdsmen killings

Doyin Okupe, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has reacted to the recent statement by the spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Professor Ango Abdullahi who at the weekend said the South was plotting to divided the “united” North.

Abdullahi had also in an interview, justified the incessant killing of innocent Nigerians across the country by Fulani herdsmen.

The former Presidential aide said it was a big shame for the elder statesman to make such public comment, adding that Abdullahi had the penchant of inciting Nigerians against each other.

He said the justification of the incessant killings by the herdsmen and the use of disparaging language against the Southern leaders was the height of it, adding that young leaders in the region would no longer take such statement.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Okupe said, “In a recent interview, Prof Ango Abdulahi was quoted as haven tried to justify the killings by Fulani Herdsmen and also passed disparaged Southerners for criticising these dastardly acts.

“If this interview by Prof Ango Abdulahi is true, then it is a big shame. The statements by him in this piece are reckless, irresponsible and disappointing.

“Prof Ango has a penchant for talking down on southern leaders which is unacceptable to say the least.

“Unfortunately he is a leader and an elder statesman that has earned my respect over the years.

“However I wish to make it categorical to him that there are new and upcoming leadership in southern Nigeria who will not take these nonsensical and condescending vituperations from him any longer. We have certainly had enough of this unbridled irredentism.”
