Ben Bruce, Senator representing Bayelsa East, on Monday revealed why Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye actually jumped off a moving police van in Abuja.

Melaye had last week jumped off a police van in Abuja while being transported to Kogi State to face criminal charges.

Following the incident, the lawmaker sustained injuries and is currently at the intensive care unit of the National Hospital in Abuja.

Explaining why Melaye jumped off the van, Bruce said his embattled colleague was asthmatic and while on transit “the police gassed him,” hence the need to force his way out of the van.

The Business mogul, in a tweet declared that Melaye “literally escaped death.”

Bruce wrote: “Just met with @dino_melaye. Very sad to hear what transpired. Dino is asthmatic, yet while in transit, the police gassed him and he could barely breathe. Second time they gassed him, he had to force his way out of the vehicle. Dino literally escaped death. SAD!”
