Champions League: What angry Barcelona players did on home flight after 3-0 loss to Roma

Barcelona players were blaming themselves on their home flight from Rome, saying that they had gifted Real Madrid another European title.

Barca fell 3-0 to Roma in Rome on Tuesday in the second leg of their quarter final after beating the Italians 4-1 at Camp Nou last week. The result sent Roma through to the semifinals on away goal.

Goals from Edin Dzeko, Daniele de Rossi and Kostas Manolas inspired a remarkable comeback which saw Barcelona eliminated at the last eight stage for the third year in a row.

A Catalan-based newspaper, Sport, reports that the plane-ride home was full of “anger and sadness.”

The newspaper added that none of the players slept, despite the plane not arriving back in Spain until 3 a.m.

Instead, their star players raged with the result and angrily proclaimed they had “delivered the Champions League to Real Madrid.”

Real Madrid won the Champions League two seasons in a row and are now the outright favourites to complete the hat-trick.

Real Madrid face Juventus in the second leg of their quarter-final on Wednesday night and have a three-goal lead.
