A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Giring Abattoir Jos on Wednesday sentenced a 29 –year-old businessman, Ishaku Samuel, to two years imprisonment for stealing a Hummer bus.
Magistrate Hanatu Gokwat, sentenced the accused after he pleaded guilty to theft and begged the court for leniency.
Gokwat, in her ruling, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N2,000.
She said the court was lenient with the convict because he readily owned up to the offence without wasting the time of the court.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Karimu Bashiru told the court that the case was reported 0n Sept., 22 at the Anglo- Jos Police station by an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The prosecutor said that , the accused entered the premises of one Gabriel Bethel and stole his hummer bus with registration Number ABE 921G Cross River.
The convict pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
“’I am sorry for what I did. Please forgive me, I will not steal again’’ he pleaded
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened section 287 of the penal code of Northern Nigeria.
