Last night, former Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Onje Gye-Wado, was kidnapped at his country residence in Rinza village, Wamba local government area. The kidnappers reportedly entered the compound by scaling the fence and broke his wife’s window before taking the professor to an unknown location.
A family source revealed that Professor Onje Gye Wado had previously survived three kidnapping attempts, during which one of his cousins was killed. “The wife came in for Easter, and they broke into the house through her window and took her husband away. They called around 4 am today, Friday, and threatened to kill him without mentioning any amount,” said the family source.
Prof. Onje Gye-Wado served as Deputy Governor under the administration of the current APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, from 1999 to 2003.
The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the abduction and assured that Commissioner of Police CP Maiyaki Baba is intensifying search and rescue operations to recover Prof. Onje Gye-Wado. The police statement indicated that officers from the Wamba Division responded to the scene, but the kidnappers had already fled with the victim.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramham Nansel, urged anyone with information that could aid in the former Deputy Governor’s rescue to contact the following phone numbers: 09115629178, 09067877096, 08112692680, and 08104441179.
