Ateke Tom charges at Tonye Princewill, Ibiamu-Ikanya, others over defamatory publications

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers state look set to be heading for a legal showdown with ex-Niger-Delta agitator, Ateke Tom.

This is because the ex-agitator and King of Okochiri clan in Okirika Local Government Area of Rivers State, King Ateke Tom has filed a one billion Naira human right suit against eight chieftains of the All Progressive Congress in the State for alleged defamation of character.

The suit by King Ateke Tom is coming on the heels of the Pro-SARS solidarity rally organized by the APC in the state on the 11th of December last year.

In the papers filed in court and obtained by DAILY POST, Defendants in the suit filed at the State High Court are, the State Chairman of APC, Chief Davies Ibiamu-Ikanya, Hon. Asita Asita, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, Chief Emeka Bekee and Sampson Ngeregbara.

Others are former Governorship candidate, Tonye Princewill, Director General of Nigeria Ports Authority, Sekonte Davies and Hon. Lawrence Chuku.

King Ateke Tom is praying the court to award the sum of one billion Naira to him against the defendants for allegedly using his picture as inscriptions on the banners and placards used by the APC Leaders during their pro-SARS protest to demean him.

The claimant also want the court to direct the defendants to tender an unreserved written apology in three prominent national dailies and should, “issue an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants or their supporters from making further defamatory publications against him (King Ateke Tom).
