Aspirants Unite Against APC’s Chosen Speaker Candidate for 10th National Assembly

Aggrieved aspirants vying for the Speaker of the House of Representatives position in the upcoming 10th National Assembly are grouping against the All Progressives Congress (APC) adopted candidates, according to The PUNCH. Some top contenders of the 9th House leadership oppose the APC’s move to announce consensus candidates without proper consultation with stakeholders in the chamber.

On Monday, the APC’s National Working Committee announced its consensus candidates for various positions, including Tajudeen Abbas for the Speaker of the House. However, other aspirants have joined forces against the APC’s decision, including the current House Committee on Appropriations Chairman, Aliyu Betara, who officially declared his speakership bid on Monday night.

Members of this group include Deputy Speaker Ahmed Wase, Majority Leader Alhassan Ado Doguwa, Chairman of the House Committee on Water Resources Sada Soli, and former House member and now member-elect Sani Jaji. The group aims to ensure the parliament’s independence and work as a team to prevent the hijacking of the House by the APC.
