Arsenal: Pires speaks on Diego Simeone, Arsene Wenger’s replacement

Arsenal legend, Robert Pires has stated that Atletico Madrid coach, Diego Simeone may be too defensive to be in charge as the Gunners’ boss.

Simeone has been linked with a summer move to the Emirate club in recent week after Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger announced he will step down as the North London club manager at the end of the season, after 22 years in charge at the club.

Pires, however, believes Simeone would not be perfect fit for Arsenal because the Spaniard is too defensive in his coaching style.

“I don’t know if Diego Simeone would be the perfect fit for Arsenal,” Pires told bwin.

“He’s a fantastic manager and he’s doing an amazing job at Atletico Madrid.

“He competes with Real Madrid and Barcelona every year and has reached the Champions League final, but his philosophy is maybe too defensive.

“Arsenal play fantastic attacking football and I think it’s important that the new manager continues with this philosophy,” he added.
