APC senator blasts own party over N11trn loan, says PDP borrowed less in 16 years

The lawmaker representing Kogi West on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Dino Melaye has stated that whereas the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, borrowed N6trn in its 16 years in power, the federal government led by his party has borrowed N11trn with three years.

Raising a Point of Order on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, the lawmaker disclosed that about $5.5bn was borrowed from euro bond, wondering how the loan has been of benefit to the Nigerian youth.

Melaye said, “Also, N500bn was earmarked for the social investment programme of the Federal Government, but we have not seen any impact.”

“Without fear or favour, the Peoples Democratic Party, in 16 years, borrowed N6tn and this government in three years, has borrowed N11tn but there is no specific programme that will empower the youth.”

DAILY POST recalls that Melaye had slammed the ruling APC for failing to meet the expectations of Nigerians, adding, “I say this without fear or favour. We have more complains in the APC and even in the Presidency than service rendered. We cannot as a people continue like this.”

Also last month, the Kogi West senator asserted that, “Muhammadu Buhari’s name is not, will not and can never be immunity for any governor. It is sad that he doesn’t even know who Muhammadu Buhari is.”
