Transfer: What Manchester United reportedly told Mourinho about signing more players

Manchester United have reassured manager Jose Mourinho that he can expect to sign more players before the transfer window closes next week.

Mourinho have been able to secure just three players this summer namely: Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant.

The Portuguese manager has complained about the lack of signings at Old Trafford, voicing his frustration at the number of players missing from the club’s pre-season tour to America, with seven first-team regulars absent.

These issues have caused friction between the former Chelsea boss and Manchester United chief, Ed Woodward, with reports claiming their relationship was at an ‘all-time low’.

The Guardian UK reports that Mourinho retains the full backing of United’s board, who are sympathetic to the manager’s current frustrations.

The newspaper claimed that Mourinho has been told that there is an intention to bolster his squad, and that incoming signings are not reliant on any sales.

The former Real Madrid boss wants to sign a forward and a centre-back and have identified Croatia’s Ivan Perisic and England’s Harry Maguire.

The Guardian reports that there was an optimism at Old Trafford that at least one more signing will arrive before the end of transfer windows, despite Mourinho’s concerns.

Speaking to ESPN last week, Mourinho confirmed he wanted to sign two more players this summer.

“One thing is what I would like. Another thing is what is going to happen.”

“I would get two more players,” he had said.
