Transfer deadline: Guardiola reveals dream signing as window closes

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has spoken on his dream signing after the transfer window closed in the United Kingdom on Thursday evening.

Manchester City made three signings in the summer transfer window.

City brought in Rodrigo from Atletico Madrid, Angelino re-joined the Club from PSV Eindhoven and Scott Carson signed on a one-year loan deal to bolster their goalkeeping options.

Guardiola told the club’s website that the ‘dream’ scenario when bringing any players in is that they have the right character and personal qualities in addition to technical proficiency.

“That is the dream,” he said.

“To see the skills on TV is easy. But when you are not with him, you don’t know.

“Of course, we prefer to work with nice people. The aim when you are working every day is for you to always enjoy the moments with them.

“When you go to Manchester City, at this type of club, the quality is there. They already have the talent, there is no doubt about that.”

Rodrigo impressed during City’s pre-season tour of Asia, before producing a fine display in the Community Shield win over Liverpool.

And he has settled well at the Club, a fine example of a young player with a desire to learn and improve.

“To settle in a new city and adapt to a new way of playing and new team-mates, you have to be open, you have to be generous and willing to try,” Guardiola said.

“I think Rodri is this type of player. It’s normally the holding midfielders… Mikel [Arteta] and myself were holding midfielders.”
