Transfer: Arsenal battle Man United for Dalian Yifang star

Published

Arsenal and Manchester United are ready to battle for Dalian Yifang star, Yannick Carrasco, according to reports in Italy.

The 25-year-old has spent one season in the Chinese Super League after joining from Atletico Madrid in February 2018.

However, both Arsenal and United are looking to bolster their squads with a new attacking signing during the January transfer window.

Sky Italia is reporting that Carrasco is considered as a potential option by both Premier League clubs.

The report also claimed that AC Milan are interested in Carrasco, but the Belgium international is understood to favour a move to Arsenal.

Carrasco joined Dalian Yifang for £26.5 million last year and the Chinese club, who finished 11th in the table last season, will want to recoup that fee.

Carrasco made an immediate impact on the left side of Dalian Yifang’s attack with seven goals and five assists in 25 appearances.

The 25-year-old is also capable of playing a more defensive role and has been used as a wing-back by Roberto Martinez for Belgium’s national team.

Coordinator of Usman Jibrin Campaign Organisation in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, Alhaji Nagogo Maiyaki has disclosed on Tuesday that some delegates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have been detained in Kogi State Board of Internal Revenue in Lokoja.

He made the disclosure at a political gathering while hosting the gubernatorial aspirant and former Chief of Naval Staff, Jibrin Usman in Lokoja.

Maiyaki explained that intimidation and harassment of party executives who were perceived not to be loyal to the governor have been heightened ahead of August 29 primaries.

“As I speak, some of our delegates have been detained at the Board of Internal Revenue in Lokoja.

“Yesterday, when I was going round to mobilise party executive for this event, I was informed that some of them were tricked to BIR and have been detained there.”

In an interview after the event, the party chieftain said, the governor did not want any gubernatorial aspirant to access the APC party Executive before the primaries.

He called on security agents to ensure the protection of party delegates and members, adding that it would be a shame for the party to keep losing members simply because they want to exercise their franchise.

Ekweremadu: Attackers insulted Igbo nation – Enugu Parliament

Published

on

Enugu West People’s Parliament, Monday, condemned in strong terms the attack on former Deputy Senate President and Senator representing Enugu West, Ike Ekweremadu in Germany on Saturday.

It described the attack said to have been carried out by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as an attack on Ndigbo.

While addressing newsmen in Enugu, the Parliament, through its spokesperson, Jonathan Ivoke came hard on the attackers, describing them as ”miscreants masquerading themselves as those fighting for the Igbo agenda.”

The group urged Igbo leaders who are currently occupying various political and cultural offices not to be distracted by the threats in their passionate efforts to serve the Igbo nation.

It condemned what it described as a ”dastardly, cowardly and sacrilegious” attack on Ekweremadu by members of IPOB.

The group noted that Ekweremadu had done so much for his constituents, the Igbo nation, Nigeria and the entire West African sub region.

Maintaining that he was instrumental in ensuring the bail of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, the group said that Ekweremadu also drew the attention of the President to the possibilities of the python Dance escalating to another civil war.

”Ekweremadu has urged the president to address the obvious marginalization of the Igbo and this shows the extent of love he has for his people. It therefore means that an assault on him is assault to the entire Igbo nation,” it said.

The group called for immediate and thorough investigation, arrest and prosecution of all those who planned and carried out the attack on the Senator.

”Other Igbo in diaspora must take note of the threats of these miscreants masquerading as those fighting for the Igbo agenda and ensure that adequate security is provided in all genuine Igbo activities abroad,” the group said.
