Rivers APC: Buhari “disturbed” by Supreme Court ruling, Amaechi dares wike

President Muhammadu Buhari has said he is “very disturbed” by the ruling of the Supreme Court, which has barred the All Progressives Congress (APC), from fielding candidates in the general elections in Rivers State.

Speaking at the APC Presidential rally in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Buhari promised to respect the institutions of the country.

“I am very very disturbed that we are not allowed to field candidates in some of our elections. I have no doubt I got elected but I have to respect the institutions that I inherited.

“I assure you and I appeal to you that you should be patient because we are going to ensure that justice is done in this country,” he said.

Speaking at the same event, Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation, made it clear that the party members are ready to face the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the Saturday’s Presidential election.

Amaechi insisted the party supporters were not discouraged by the ruling of the Supreme Court.

He also accused the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, of influencing a High Court judgment against the APC in the state.

“Whatever Wike wants on Saturday, we will give him. Whatever the PDP wants in Rivers State, we are equal to the task. It’s as simple as that. It gets to a stage where a man must be a man. Your Excellency, I’m not going to Abuja anymore. I am here from today till (Election Day).

“In 2015, the army tried to arrest me as a sitting governor. You have a governor who is busy lobbying us, trying to negotiate with us, ‘Let us give you presidency, you give me governor.’ He is afraid. We will battle him to the last. On Saturday, they should get ready.

“The support we want is that the President should just thank us when we finish. We are ready for them. They used federal and state institutions against us. They kill our people, APC people, every day; cut off their necks every day.

“Wike was my chief of staff. I made him chairman of council. I nominated him as a minister. When he saw Goodluck, he betrayed me. I have been betrayed serially, including senators. After you finish helping them, after praying for them, they go and betray you for a pot of porridge. Saturday is our day,” Amaechi said.

Kaduna people protest over frequent kidnapping

Residents of some communities in Kaduna State, on Sunday protested the repeated kidnappings in their areas.

The residents of Nariya and Kanama communities blocked the Nnamdi Azikwe Expressway during the protest.

Speaking to DAILY POST, a resident of Nariya, Mr. Johanna lamented incessant cases of kidnapping since the last few months saying, “we are no longer safe in our homes.”

According to him, every week, they witness one kidnapping or the other, adding that kidnappers make huge demand of money from family of victims.

“In some cases, the victims lost their lives in the process.

“Just last week, a pregnant woman was kidnapped in Chokoliko village. Few hours later, another was kidnapped in Nassarawa village. They later made huge demand of money from family of their victims. As I am talking with you, the one kidnapped in Nassarawa is yet to return, because the family could not afford to pay the ransom. We couldn’t sleep in the night for fear of being kidnapped, we couldn’t stay out in the night or go far from home.” He added.

Another resident of Kunama community, Mrs. Iliya Bilkisu said her husband was kidnapped two months ago, but was released after ransom was paid.

“My husband was kidnapped right in the evening at the gate of our house when he was returning from work. He spent three weeks at the den of kidnappers. We even thought, they have killed him. He walked to the house one evening. We were surprised and happy to see him because we paid the money demanded, but they did not release him till after two weeks.”

She called on the law enforcement agencies to strengthen their operations in and around Kaduna to ensure that kidnappers were wiped out from the state.

DAILYPOST had on Saturday (yesterday) reported the killing of foreign female tourist and one other, while three others were kidnapped in Kajuru Castle Resort, in Kajuru local government.

Politicians who spend above 12 years in public offices are parasites – Pat Utomi

Factional governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, Prof.
Pat Utomi, has described as social parasites politicians who spend more than 12 consecutive years in public offices.

Utomi, a professor of political economy, made this description when he featured in an interview that aired on ARISE TV on Saturday.

His words, “I despise people who live on politics. I think that people who make a career in life based on politics are doing society a disservice.

“I have said that nobody should hold public office for more than 12 consecutive years. You go from a commissioner to the governor, senator; you are a social parasite.

“You should come out of your hard work, make a difference for four to eight years and go back to what you do. If it’s not like that for you, you are a parasite to society. The characters making it difficult to make progress are social parasites who call themselves politicians.”
