Popular Islamic scholar, Sheikh Tureta is dead

Popular Islamic scholar and teacher, Sheikh Abubakar Tureta is dead.

Tureta died at the age of 74 on Sunday night at Garkuwa hospital in Kaduna after battling with injuries he sustained in an accident three years ago.

He was buried at 1pm on Monday at the Bashama road Muslim cemetery according to Islamic rites.

He is survived by 39 children and 84 grandchildren.

His eldest son, 51-year-old Justice Salisu Abubakar Tureta told reporters in the state that his father had been sick for the past nine months.

Justice Salisu who is a Sharia Court Judge in Magaji Gari, Kaduna described his father as a dedicated and truthful Muslim who strived to please Allah in all his endeavors while he was alive.

He said, “My father and I were very close, he made me who I am today and the Islamic knowledge I have acquired. He was a great teacher and mentor to anyone who came across him.

“My father was a very simple man who spent all his life promoting Islamic Knowledge and assisting the less privileged. He fancied worldly things but had many religious books he usually consults in his day to day dealings.”
