Police speak on movement of Nigerians during election

The Bauchi state Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Janja has assured people of the state that the police is ready to provide tight security during the conduct of the presidential and governorship elections billed for February 16 and March 2, 2019.

This was as he warned that movement would be highly restricted to all and sundry regardless of status.

The police commissioner stated this in Bauchi during a one-day stakeholders’ meeting organised by INEC on the level of preparedness for the 2019 general elections held at the INEC office in Bauchi.

He said that the police and other sister security agencies will give all political parties an enabling environment to thrive by allowing all eligible voters to go and cast their votes, assuring that nobody will be intimidated.

The police boss further urged party faithful to be law-abiding and steer clear of any conduct that could jeopardise free, fair and peaceful conduct of the election and also called on contestants to talk to their supporters to shun violence.

He said, “Any person caught engaging in acts capable of constituting a breach of the public peace will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.

“Also, restriction of movements will be in force. We will not allow any government official or leaders of political parties to monitor the election because we have the election observers to do that. If you must monitor the election as a voter, you must stay 300 meters away from the voting centre,” he said.

CP Ali admonished those seeking electoral offices not to view the elections as a do-or-die affair, pointing out that electoral positions are given by God to whoever he pleases.
