PDP urges INEC to reject Malami’s call for postponement of elections in Zamfara

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to reject the directive by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, to postpone elections in Zamfara State.

The State chairman of the PDP, Mr Ndubuisi Nwobu stated this to journalists at a joint press conference with the chairman of Atiku/Obi campaign council in Anambra State, Mr Oseloka Obaze, in Awka, the state capital.

Nwobu said the problem of the APC in Zamfara State was self inflicted, and no one should be made to suffer for the problem of the party.

“We reject any plan of postponement of elections in Zamfara, and we call on INEC not to listen to the Attorney General. APC inflicted the injury on themselves, they had four whole years to prepare for this election, just like we had.

“Postponing the election in isolation is unacceptable. It is not in the interest of Nigerians and also in the interest of any of the party. You can not postpone an election just two days to the election, when you have seen that defeat is starring you in the face. Besides, the Attorney General has no business with where elections are conducted.”

The PDP spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, had days back accused the APC of plans to postpone election in select states that were not favourable to them, with the intention to fix them at a later date when security would be deployed to such states to ensure success for the party.

Meanwhile, the party has confirmed the arrival of sensitive materials for Saturday’s election in Anambra.

Nwobu said, “Yes, the sensitive materials have arrived, and they are currently being sorted out at the Central Bank branch in Anambra. We have been told that because of the smart card readers that were burnt the other day, INEC was making plans to bring some from other states.

“For now, we have no reason to raise any form of alarm over the sensitive materials because they are still being sorted out, but it is believed that after that is done, we can take serial numbers of the material before we can make comments on that.”
