NPFL: Sunshine Stars fall to Rangers in Akure

Sunshine Stars Football Club on Sunday lost their home match to Rangers International at the Akure Township Stadium.

The Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, week 15 encounter saw the Owena Whales loosing 1-2 to their rivals from Enugu who are currently sitting atop of the league table with 27 points.

Sunshine Stars, who are sixth on the table, started the game smoothly before their efforts were thwarted in the 27th minutes as Seka Pascal of Rangers put the visiting team in the lead by scoring the first goal.

Not long had the visitors jubilated that Sunshine Stars swiftly responded with a tactical finish from Anthony Omaka in the 29th minute.

The equalizer later boosted the morale of the home team as they tried to secure the maximum three points, but this was not to be as Seka Pascal again found the back of the net at the 47th minutes.

Pascal’s second goal was however controversial as it was allegedly claimed that the Assistant Referee failed to spot the offside position of the Rangers’ forward.

During the second half of the game, the Owena Whales later regained possession and almost equalize with a sumptuous strike from Seun Olulayo which was said to have crossed the goal line but the Referee ruled otherwise.

With another opportunity to savage the day presenting itself, Sunshine Stars’ Franklin Sasere missed from the penalty spot at the 84th minutes with the rebound scored by Anthony Omaka disallowed by the Referee.
