Nigerians attack EFCC over invitation of Ekweremadu

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has sparked controversy over a letter sent to the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, inviting him for questioning.

The anti-graft agency in the letter dated July 24, signed by its Director of operations, Mohammed Abar
asked Ekweremadu to visit 5, Fomela street in Wuse 2 at 10am for questioning.

EFCC said it was investigating “case of conspiracy, abuse of office and money laundering”.

But the letter inviting Ekweremadu was dated Tuesday, July 24, the same day it asked the Enugu-born politician to appear at 10am.

Reacting, Nigerians said that the anti-graft agency was being used as a tool for dictatorship in President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

According to them, the letter and invasion of Ekweremadu’s residence showed that the EFCC was no longer a neutral body, but had been compromised.

Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST:

@Mbaderek “How can democracy thrive in a country when so-called independent organizations like EFCC are tools of dictatorship.”

@Emmaikumeh “So the EFCC is now been used against the deputy sen president, they sent an invitation to Ekweremadu at 8 am July 24, 2018 – to report at 10am July 24, 2018. “EFCC/Police are working hand in hand with Buhari to destroy democracy. It will fail.”

@Nsa20 “This is clearly proved that EFCC is no longer a neutral body but it is a tool used by the @MBuhari led admin to fight those in opposition and anybody trying utter the bitter part of his failed admin. Any attempts to attack our democracy remained condemnable! Buhari Must Go.”

@Aroberryplc “It is sad if EFCC is politicised. They should do their job regardless of the political affiliation of the accused persons. But based on the letter, the honorable is only invited for interrogation. He should go n fear nothing if innocent. No sacred cow.”

@Ojojoh “Magu, Idris are just tools used by the presidency to intimidate democracy, I feel sorry for those two. Like really sorry for them because the table will turn, the wind will shift, tides will turn, the weather will change, knowledge will always grow, the day will come after night, the sun will rise.”

@Amasonic “So they blocked Ekweremadu first and then created a letter from EFCC after the fact? How do you serve an invitation letter on the morning you want the person to appear?

@Ariyoaristotle “I see you EFCC playing politics with the Eagle. You sent an invitation to Ekweremadu at 8 am July 24, 2018 – to report at 10am July 24, 2018.

“EFCC/Police have plotted with Buhari to destroy democracy. It will fail.”

@Olayinkalere “Suddenly, EFCC remembered that it has complaints against the Dep. Senate President, Ekweremadu and invited him this morning.

“Like I have said in the past, those still supporting this Buhari’s Tyranny will soon get their own treatment.”

@Sudeh01 “How can EFCC reportedly serve him an invitation by 8am and expect him to make himself available by 10am same day? Yet his residence is under siege. What’s going on?

@Ay_focus “EFCC should be more creative than this, they are doing President Buhari more harm than good.”
