1. The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Saturday departed Nigeria for Kigali, Rwanda.
The Vice President joined other world leaders and top dignitaries to participate as a Special Guest in the ceremonies marking 25th National Commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi holding today in Kigali.
2. The House of Representatives has threatened to forcefully make the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Madonna University, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Edeh, comply with its summon and appear before its committee on Public Petitions, if he failed to honour its invitation on or before April 9, 2019.
Others expected to appear with the VC include officials of the institution namely: Rev. Fr. Francis Nwachukwu, Rev. Fr. Francis Nginga and Mr Ogbonna Okey; to give account on the alleged abduction and torture of two students, Stanley Okoye and Ga-Lim Aondofa, before the Uzoma Nkem-Abonta-led House Committee.
3. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says the Air Task Force (ATF) for Operation DIRAN MIKIYA has successfully destroyed a bandits’ logistics base at Ajia in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, in a statement issued in Abuja, said the ATF also neutralised dozens of the bandits at Ajia and Wonaka in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of the state.
4. Indigenes of Zamfara State, resident in Abuja, have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently intervene and stop the killings and kidnappings currently going on in the state.
The indigenes, who staged a protest in Abuja on Saturday, decried the insecurity in the state, which has resulted in apprehension, displacements of communities and loss of lives.
5. President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday met with King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan.
President Buhari, who met with King Abdullah II on the sideline of the World Economic Forum on Middle East and North Africa holding in Dead Sea, Jordan, said the international support Nigeria got, particularly from Jordan, showed commitment to making the world a more harmonious and peaceful place where people can live and pursue their interests without fear.
6. The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has claimed that some “fraudsters in banks are laundering public funds for corrupt politicians and terrorists”.
Magu, who spoke at a meeting with compliance officers of different banks in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital during the weekend, said apart from colluding with the corrupt politicians and “terrorists”, the banks also help Internet fraudsters commit financial crimes using money transfer services.
7. Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Saturday morning arrived Doha, Qatar, as leader of the National Assembly’s delegation to the 140th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
In a statement by Saraki’s Chief Press Secretary, Sanni Onogu and made available to newsmen in Abuja, said Deputy Speaker, Hon. Yussuf Lasun Suleimon is the Deputy leader of the delegation to the meeting billed to commence on April 5, and to end on April 8.
8. The management of the University of Ibadan has dismissed insinuations that a former lecturer, Mr Aminu Zubair, who died in his residence on the institution’s campus, committed suicide.
The university’s Director of Communication, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo, said Zubair died in a fire outbreak that occurred at his residence.
9. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), says it has confirmed 16 new cases of Lassa fever from five states in Nigeria.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, said that the 16 new cases have now brought the number of confirmed cases to 526 out of the 2,034 suspected cases since Jan. 1 in 21 states.
10. The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has denied any recent attack on its troops and killing of 18 soldiers in its area of responsibility.
