1. The Kaduna State Police Command on Thursday said it arrested 24 suspected criminals, and recovered eight guns and live ammunition.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Malam Ahmad Abdurrahaman, who made the disclosure at a press briefing in Kaduna on Thursday, said the arrest followed a special operation by the command to rid the state of criminals.

2. The Labour Party on Thursday endorsed AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Saturday’s governorship election in Kwara State.

Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Comrade Issa Aremu announcing withdrawal from the race, said the development marked the beginning of liberation from one party which had ruled the state for 16 years.

3. The Court of Appeal on Thursday cleared the APC governorship candidate, Sani Danladi, to participate in Saturday’s governorship election in Taraba State.

The appeal court in Yola granted a stay of execution of an order of the Federal High Court in Jalingo. The Appeal Court panel was presided by Chidi Uwa.

4. Muhtar Bello, a Deputy Chief Detective Superintendent, DCDS, has assumed office as the new Zonal Head of the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The commission made the announcement in a statement posted on its website on Thursday.

5. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, on Thursday urged Nigerians to troop out in large numbers on Saturday and cast their votes.

Secondus advised them not to bow to the All Progressives Congress, APC, which has “turned the country’s armed forces against her citizens to scare them away from exercising their civic responsibilities”.

6. A sociopolitical pressure group, the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to mandate the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to investigate the $5million bribery allegations against Abdullahi Ganduje, Governor of Kano State.

In an application filed yesterday at the Federal High Court, HEDA is seeking an order of mandamus to compel the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to launch a thorough investigation into the bribery allegations against the Governor.

7. Mr. Ibrahim Emokpaire, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency in Rivers ahead of Saturday’s elections.

Emokpaire said the call had become necessary following the insecurity and killings that characterised the Feb. 23, Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

8. Men in military uniform on Thursday invaded the palace of ex-militant leader and traditional ruler, Ateke Tom in Okochiri, Rivers State.

They broke into the palace and ransacked the entire building. They also fired gunshots into certain areas in the palace grounds.

9. A Kwara State High Court has given the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq 30 days to defend the authenticity of his West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate.

The court issued the ultimatum following a suit instituted against the APC gubernatorial candidate by the applicant, Adekunle Oluwafemi Abraham.

10. The Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO), yesterday urged Justice Binta Mohammed of the High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, to strike out a motion filed by presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, seeking to compel President Muhammadu Buhari to pay him damages amounting to the sum of N200 billion.

The BCO argued before the court that Atiku’s counter-claim in which he challenged President Buhari’s capacity and performance in office as president can only be sustained in a separate suit.
