Nigeria vs Tunisia: Rohr happy to take revenge over Griesse, speaks on Ighalo’s injury

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has admitted he is delighted to finally get a win over a team coached by Alain Griesse.

Nigeria beat Tunisia 1-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations third-place playoff on Wednesday night, thanks to Odion Ighalo’s early strike.

Rohr, who has suffered several defeats to Griesse, told a post-match conference: “It’s my first medal in the AFCON and I’m happy with it.

“I have suffered some losses to Alain Griesse in the past so it is good to now win against him. I am happy that all 23 players played.”

The German also revealed that Ighalo suffered a knee injury towards the end of the first half.

The AFCON top scorer was replaced by Victor Osimhen after the break.

“We are depressed with Ighalo’s injury and we wanted to win the bronze medal to make him smile.

“It’s a knee injury, he was supposed to return to his Chinese club after today but he can’t now,” Rohr added.
