Nigeria vs South Africa: Jay Jay Okocha singles out two players

Nigeria legend, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, has reacted to Super Eagles’ 2-1 victory over South Africa at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation quarter-final encounter on Wednesday night.

Okocha also singled out Arsenal star, Alex Iwobi and Villereal winger, Samuel Chukwueze for their outstanding performances against the Bafana Bafana at the Cairo International Stadium.

Samuel Chukwueze gave Gernot Rohr’s men a 1-0 lead at the break after an assist from Alex Iwobi.

However, South Africa levelled in the second half, thanks to Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decision.

With the match looking to head into extra time, William Troost-Ekong forced the ball over the line in the final minute of play.

“I think we had two different half. In the first half we dominated the game and we took the game to the South Africans,” Okocha told SuperSport in his post-match analysis.

“In the second half, we started defending so soon and then we allowed the South Africans to start getting the balls.”

Okocha added: “Iwobi eliminating his man there and Chukwueze in the right place at the right time did fantastic.

“I knew we needed a second goal because at some point the South Africa would create a chance and I think the goalkeeper kept them in the game and that was what happened. The VAR goal they scored gave them the confidence to come back to the game.”

Nigeria will now play the winner between Ivory Coast and Algeria in the semi-final in few days’ time.
