Nigeria election result: What we need from Buhari in next four years – Yobe residents

Some youths and women, on Wednesday in Damaturu, Yobe, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to focus more on improving their living condition and enhance other development projects in his second term.

Nura Yakubu, a youth and political analyst, in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu, called on Buhari to give women and youths special consideration in his planned programmes.

“President Buhari will do well by focusing more on youths and women empowerment, especially in the North-east that has been ravaged by insurgency.

“The Buhari-led government should map out strategies to assess and address the cause of youths’ involvement in unholy activities.

“The government will also do well by taking a deeper look in finding lasting solution to the suffering of women and how, at least, to reciprocate their immense contribution to Buhari’s victory,” Yakubu said.

Malam Abdullahi Sani also urged the President to employ all constitutional means possible to checkmate unemployment in the country as well as out of school children, particularly in the North-east.

“Nigerian youths are creative and hardworking people, all we need is meaningful assistance from the government,” Sani said.

Rafia’at Muhammed, a young mother, said Buhari owed Nigerian women a lot in appreciation of the decisive role they played in his re-election.

“Many women participated in open campaign for his election. We also engaged in domestic campaign; talking to our younger ones who are of voting age.

“Importantly, we left everything, including our little children at home to cast our votes for him.

“Now it is his turn to give us a better life, buy focusing on matters concerning women, especially healthcare,” she said.

Maimuna Hassan, an undergraduate at the Yobe State University, also called on the government to improve the quality of education by creating vocational centres to accommodate those not in regular tertiary institutions.

“Engaging the youth and women in various skill acquisition programmes will discourage them from roaming the streets, begging and falling into the hands of undesirable criminal elements in the society.” Hassan said.
