The Arewa Youth Forum, AYF, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for reviving the national carrier, Nigeria Air.
The forum said the bringing to life of the airline is a welcome development after about 40 years of being comatose.
AYF National President, Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, in a statement in Kaduna on Thursday, said, “Arewa Youth Forum, AYF, will like to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for reviving the National carrier (Nigeria Air).
“This is a welcome development after about 40 years of been comatose. This is a good development in the right direction for this administration and Nigeria as a whole.
“We urge all Well meaning Nigerians to commend this milestone while eagerly waiting for the official take off of the airline.”
The forum noted that national carrier would boost the image of the country in the global arena.
“It is also in view of this that the AYF is calling on the President to immediately begin to tend to many of the promises made to Nigerians that this government is yet to fulfill,” the statement added.
The forum called on President Buhari to immediately put in motion, measures necessary for the revival of comatose and abandoned industries across the country.
“If Mr President can still remember during his campaigns in 2015 in Kaduna, he promised that the revival of the industries especially the closed textile industries in Kaduna will be the panacea to tackling insecurity.
“The president then promised to use the revitalization of the companies as a launch pad to tackling the endemic insecurity that was plaguing the country prior to the 2015 elections.
“As youths, our expectations were high and we were very expectant. Over three years down the road, we are still expecting and waiting for the fulfillment of the promise. It is because of this that we are calling on the government to act in the same vain it has brought the national carrier back to life.”
“Insecurity had even increased as killings is no longer only in the North East where the Boko Haram insurgency is holding sway but now all over the country.
“The killers are even now more daring as the security operatives either lack the moral, the equipment and the National patriotism to confront the marauders. The story is the same from the North East, to the North West , the North Central and other parts of the country.
“The question on the lips of majority of Nigerians is when will these pogrom be over. When will Nigerians wake up to the news that the attacks, killings and maiming are no longer part of our daily ritual.
“It is no longer a surprise therefore that regional groupings across the country are becoming more emboldened to speak for themselves instead of Nigerians as a whole. This is not good enough. Nigerians now look for alternatives roots to protection and survival instead of looking up to the government of the day.
“This regional affiliations is a sign that many people are loosing faith in the center a development that is not good enough.
“The earlier you tackle the insecurity the better as it help to rejuvenate the Nigerian spirit in many of our people again,” the forum said.
